Kokonte is a traditional Ghanaian dish made from dried cassava flour, a staple food particularly beloved in the Northern Region, whose preparation and consumption bring families together and reinforce cultural identity. Ghanaian Foods
Meannan Quality Cassava Flour is exactly what it says on the pack — quality cassava, nothing else. No additives, no fillers, no shortcuts. Hygienically made from 100% natural raw materials with no additives, suitable for preparation of Kokonte meal and Tuo-Zafi. Praiseexport
The Ingredient
100% Dried Cassava Flour — produced by cooking, drying and grinding the root of the cassava plant into a fine powder. Olasfoodsmarket Cassava is one of West Africa’s most important staple crops, naturally rich in carbohydrates, dietary fibre, and energy-sustaining complex starches. The drying process gives kokonte flour its characteristic deep, earthy flavour and the distinctive light-to-dark brown colour that sets it apart from fufu and banku.
What It Delivers
✅ 100% pure cassava — no additives, no fillers, no artificial ingredients ✅ Naturally gluten-free — cassava contains no gluten whatsoever ✅ Naturally vegan — single plant-based ingredient ✅ Rich in complex carbohydrates — a steady, long-lasting energy source ✅ Good source of dietary fibre — supports healthy digestion ✅ Versatile — use for Kokonte, Tuo-Zafi (TZ), cassava porridge, and more ✅ Smooth, consistent texture when cooked — lump-free results every time ✅ The authentic earthy, toasty flavour of traditional Ghanaian kokonte ✅ Made in Ghana by Meannan — quality cassava, hygienically processed
How to Prepare Kokonte
- Bring water to a boil in a saucepan — use approximately 2 cups of water per 1 cup of flour
- Gradually add the Meannan Cassava Flour to the boiling water, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon to prevent lumps
- Reduce to medium heat and keep stirring for 5–10 minutes as the mixture thickens into a smooth, cohesive dough
- If it becomes too thick, add a little more water one tablespoon at a time and keep stirring
- Once smooth and pulling away from the sides of the pot, scoop into portions, shape, and serve hot
Tip: Stir continuously from the moment the flour hits the water — this is the key to a smooth, lump-free kokonte every time.
Serve With Groundnut Soup | Vegetable (Kontomire) Soup | Draw Soup | Palm Nut Soup | Light Soup | Okra Soup | Any rich West African stew
Also Used For Tuo-Zafi (TZ) | Cassava porridge | Thickening soups and stews
