Description

Wasawasa is a traditional Ghanaian dish, particularly popular in the Northern regions. It is made from dried yam flour, which is steamed to create a couscous-like texture. This dish is often served with spicy sauces, vegetables, and sometimes fish or meat.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups ⦁ yam flour
  • 1/3 cup ⦁ water
  • ⦁ Salt to taste
  • ⦁ Vegetable oil
  • ⦁ Any preferred spices (optional)
  • ⦁ Fish or meat (optional)
Instructions
Step 1 Prepare the Yam Flour:
  1. ⦁ Sieve the yam flour to remove any debris or large particles.
  2. ⦁ Gradually add water to the sieved yam flour, mixing thoroughly in a circular motion until it forms small grains similar to couscous.
  3. Step 2 Steam the Yam Flour:
  4. ⦁ Bring a pot of water to a boil.
  5. ⦁ Place a steamer or colander over the boiling water and pour the yam flour mixture into it.
  6. ⦁ Cover and steam for about 15 minutes, stirring gently after the first 10 minutes.
  7. Step 3 Rinse and Steam Again:
  8. ⦁ Remove the steamed yam flour from the steamer and rinse it in cold water to remove any remaining particles and bitterness.
  9. ⦁ Drain the yam flour and return it to the steamer for another 10-12 minutes.
  10. Step 4 Add Oil and Seasoning:
  11. ⦁ After the second steaming, add 3 teaspoons of vegetable oil and salt to taste.
  12. ⦁ Mix well and serve hot with your choice of spicy sauce, vegetables, or fish/meat.
